A youth driven drama that speaks in the language of urban teens. It is
not a Hollywood production, but delivers a Hollywood punch to young people
about sexual accountability, relationships, love and even murder. Laced
with HIV truths, “Secrets” entertains as well as informs.
An upper middle class high school is plagued with an outbreak of a rare
strain of the HIV virus among the female students. The local law
enforcement investigation reveals that someone is deliberately spreading
the virus with reckless regard. Enter, Donte, a popular brother, known for
his athletic ability, good looks and charisma with the female students. He
raises the detective’s suspicion when he refuses to be tested for the
virus when asked to do so in a school wide screening. Our journey bounces
between the classroom, school dance, clubs and the Principal’s office. We
experience a fair amount of teasing, tussling and testing the limits of
balancing upbringing and maturity. Along the way, a
strange young man, Bryce, seeks to ‘get to know’ Donte more than most.
Meanwhile, Donte falls for Shelita, as smart as she is attractive. She is
outspoken about her ongoing commitment to abstinence. The two become a
couple, but circumstances arise that cause Shelita to question Donte’s
faithfulness and his ability to be abstinent. When Shelita catches him
leaving the home of another female student late at night, Donte is forced
to divulge his most deeply kept secret. Moved by Donte’s heart felt
confession and a proclamation of his love for Shelita, she is compelled to
reveal a safely guarded secret of her own. The story quickly moves into a
series of revelations that involve a syringe, a gun and revenge. |
